Elderly Woman and Young Man Arrested for Drug Possession in Vosloorus

In a recent development in the ongoing battle against drug-related crime, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested an elderly woman and a 26-year-old man for the alleged possession and sale of crystal meth. This incident occurred on October 21 during a routine patrol in the Vosloorus area of Ekurhuleni.

Arrest and Discovery

During a crime prevention operation conducted in Extension 4 of Mayibuye Park, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit officers received a tip from a concerned passer-by. This tip alleged that a young man and a senior female were openly selling drugs to the community. Officers promptly responded to this information and made their way to Red Rose Street.

Upon arrival, a 26-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were apprehended after officers discovered a ziplock bag containing crystal meth valued at R50. A subsequent body search revealed that the senior citizen was concealing 33 additional ziplock bags of crystal meth valued at R2,000. Furthermore, the officers found the woman in possession of R217, believed to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics.

Legal Proceedings

The arrested individuals now face charges of possession and possible dealing in illicit substances. They have been taken to the Vosloorus police station and are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court.

This incident is not isolated, as earlier this year, EMPD officers arrested four individuals, two women in their 60s, and two men in their 20s, for their alleged involvement in drug-related activities. The arrest took place in Reiger Park, Boksburg, following a tip-off from concerned community members.

According to Katlego Mphahlele, an EMPD spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended at their residence on Clarence September Street, where officers discovered crystal meth valued at R69,900. The arrested individuals included two men, aged 21 and 23, as well as two women, aged 60 and 65.

Community Involvement in Combating Drug-Related Crime

These arrests highlight the crucial role that community members play in combating drug-related crime. Their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement is an essential factor in identifying and addressing individuals involved in drug trafficking and sales. The EMPD continues to encourage the public to report suspicious activities and contribute to a safer community.

As these cases proceed through the legal system, the individuals involved will have the opportunity to defend themselves in a court of law, and justice will run its course.
