In a historic moment for East Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have been awarded the prestigious opportunity to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This joint bid victory marks the first time in the tournament's history that three countries will come together to stage the event, underscoring not only their commitment to football but also their regional unity. A Unique Achievement The decision to award the 2027 AFCON to the East African trio comes after Ghana and Nigeria co-hosted in 2000 and Equatorial Guinea and Gabon did so in 2012. However, this is the first time that three nations have united to organize this premier continental sporting event. He also noted that this marks the first time AFCON will return to East Africa since Ethiopia hosted it in 1976. Nuur Mohamud Sheekh, a spokesperson for the east African regional bloc IGAD, celebrated the successful bid on social media, emphasizing that it showcases the region's passion and commitment to sports and its potential to foster harmony not only within the region but across the entire African continent.
