Security ‘Heightened’ for Minister Pandor Amidst Israeli Retaliation Speculations

South Africa’s International Relations Minister, Naledi Pandor, has raised concerns over potential intimidation from Israeli intelligence following South Africa’s decision to take Israel to the International Court of Justice for alleged genocide.

Pandor expressed worries about her family’s safety, citing threatening messages on social media platforms. She confirmed receiving increased security measures provided by Police Minister Bheki Cele in response to these concerns.

“This is par for the course. The Israeli agents, the intelligence services, this is how they behave, and they seek to intimidate you, so we must not be intimidated. There is a cause that is underway. The people of the world and of Palestine didn’t draw back when apartheid was at its worst,” she stated while addressing journalists outside Parliament after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address.

Despite the personal toll, Pandor emphasized that the South African government remains resolute in pursuing the case against Israel at the ICJ, characterizing the intimidation as typical behavior from Israeli intelligence.

Balancing Perspectives

The situation surrounding Minister Pandor’s claims requires careful consideration of multiple perspectives. While Pandor alleges intimidation from Israeli intelligence, it’s important to note that Israel has not officially responded to these allegations. Moreover, claims of genocide are deeply contentious and subject to rigorous legal scrutiny.
